Dear Stranger,
It is funny that I call you a stranger, when all we are looking for is a place to belong, to be known, to be called by our name. For now, “stranger” will have to do.
This page did not appear, nor was it made by accident. You might have found it after a long night, as you wrap up a hard day’s work, or at that one moment when everything feels just a little bit heavier. However you got here, welcome. I want you to know that this message is for you.
Being ––living, existing, resisting–– as a migrant is not an easy task to endure. It takes courage to leave your home behind, to think in a different language, to translate your emotions, to leave everything and everyone that feels familiar. Building a future from nothingness can be overwhelming. Some days are especially lonely; others might feel like your attempts to fit in are invisible.
I see you.
In the early mornings.
In the long hours.
In the loneliness, in the tiredness.
In longing (for your) home.
Even when it doesn’t feel fair, you didn’t accidentally make it this far. Your story matters. Your efforts matter. You matter. And there is a reason why you are still here. There is a reason why you try again. And again. And again.
If today feels heavy, let this be a small reminder: You kept going. You keep going alongside millions of migrants whose stories are also unknown. You are resilient, you are hopeful, you are brave.
Kindest regards,
Someone who believes in you
